Representative Sharon Chung

State Rep. IL-91

State Representative Sharon Chung serves the 91st District in the Illinois House of Representatives.

Throughout her tenure, Sharon has fought tirelessly for working families. By supporting responsible state budgets, record-setting investments in higher education, and leading the charge to protect press freedoms amid a national crackdown on speech, Sharon has made service her mission in Springfield.

The daughter of Korean immigrants, Sharon moved to Bloomington to attend Illinois Wesleyan University, before earning her masters degree at Northwestern University. She returned to Bloomington to start her family and career, and has called this community home ever since.

As both a teacher and musician, Sharon has been an active, dues-paying member of the American Federation of Musicians Local 301. She shares her love for the violin with students and audiences across Central Illinois.

In 2018, Sharon became the first Asian-American elected to public office in McLean County history, when she won a seat on the County Board. In that role, she advocated for greater transparency and government efficiency for the benefit of county residents.

She was sworn into office as State Representative in January of 2023, and is currently serving her third term.

The 91st District includes portions of McLean, Peoria, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties.
